Information about the CREU:
The Clinical Research and Evaluation Unit (CREU) is located in the Department of Psychiatry at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, CT. Researchers in the CREU conduct clinical trials evaluating medications for the treatment of heavy drinking and alcohol dependence. The studies offer medication (active drug or inactive placebo) plus individual counseling for individuals who want to reduce or stop their drinking. All appointments are confidential and are provided free of charge. The research is supported by various funding sources, including one or more of the following: the UConn Alcohol Research Center, the Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. General Clinical Research Center, grants from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and grants from the pharmaceutical industry. The CREU has been in operation since 1988, and over 1,000 individuals have participated in the research treatment programs.
